Somebody Better Duck

Throughout my gaming career I have always liked to believe that I have been the go to person for resolving personnel issues. If there was a problem to be solved, nine times out often I could resolve a situation with everyone’s feelings intact. No fuss no muss.

Notice I said nine out often? I did that on purpose. Occasionally something goes haywire and things explode. And believe me brother when they go boom, it is a REALLY BIG FUCKING BOOM. I am talking carnage to likes of entire guilds disintegrating into dust. Of course there has to be tremendous underlying problems for that kind of destruction and I know that. But being the mediator, you’re kind of out there on the ledge all by yourself.

Okay so I am only human and I can have a bad day too. Wednesday night, even though Black Sunshine managed to finally down the first boss in Greenscale, I ended up having a bad night. Being a figure head in the guild I am asked to help mediate guild issues from time to time. Apparently sometime on Tuesday there was a minor dust up in guild chat that was squashed by officers.

One of the parties involved pulled the classic “no drama” gquit in the middle of the night. So what’s the problem you ask? She is the wife of one of our class officers who promptly gquit himself. I can’t blame the guy; you got to back your wife’s play. She is his wife for heavens sakes; she has way more to offer the guy that we do ;)

I was pulled into this discussion, with no prior knowledge mind you, minutes after we downed the boss. Yeah the timing sucked. I am not sure who thought it would be a good idea to talk things over at that particular time but that move did nothing to improve my attitude. I have a feeling that one of our tanks cough.. ..Tuck.. ..cough was in tell hell during a few of our attempts.

I think it would be safe to say that there was no way I was able to be unbiased in the situation. Remember a few weeks back when I expressed my frustration over guild drama? Let’s just say I have reached my fill with that particular topic. The timing of having the discussion DURING the raid was just icing on the cake. With a sour attitude I really did try to be as gracious as I could.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do or say to appease the offended party. It became painfully evident that this was the case as far as my involvement is concerned. Sometimes the offended simply wants to be heard and other times they want a beheading. One thing I will never do is promise something I knowingly can not deliver. As far I was concerned this was exactly what this person wanted.

I knew it was time for me to exit the negotiations when the offended unknowingly made a couple of off handed remarks while their microphone was hot. Yes that is right, they said something that was not meant for our ears and we heard it. With my crappy attitude firmly in tow I left the voice channel by apologizing for the original event and expressing regret that were at an impasse. There was really nothing more I could do.

After I left the talks continued. As I write this I have no idea what transpired. Somehow someway there must have been some progress made because husband and wife are back in the guild. At least for the time being disaster was narrowly avoided! I fully plan on keeping my eyes forward and not looking back.

In other news Razor managed to reach max level and he was able to raid with us for the first time. It was good to have both he and Tuck smashing monsters with me once again.
