Greetings to all of my fellow Imperial brethren. Razor here with a guest post. Those of you that know me will recall in WoW that I was a little bit of a goblin. Truth be told that little habit of having lots of currency has transferred right over into SWTOR. I guess you could say I have become a member of the Hutt Coalition.
A few fundamentals of the game first. Once you leave your starting planet and head to the Imperial Fleet one of the first quests you receive is to talk to the crew skill trainers. There are 14 in all, and you get experience for talking to each one to see what they have to offer. Being new to SWTOR left me in a little of a bind as I knew very little about what was offered. Thanks to the in game codex I was soon able to discover what each skill was, you are allowed 3 skills of which only 1 is permitted to be a crafting skill. Unlike WoW with a gathering skill you have the option to send your crew members out on gathering missions.
Of all the crew skills available there are 2 that are pure profit once you get the hang of them. These skills are Underworld Trading and Slicing. I chose both of the skills to have a go with them. This post will focus entirely on Slicing and almost entirely on the credits that are returned to you.

SWTOR – Slicing
Slicing is the SWTOR version of being a Hacker. You send your crew member out on missions and in return either get a lockbox or an augment. There is very little credits to be had from augments, so I concentrated on lockbox missions. If done properly and with a little bit of knowledge slicing is a pure credit heaven.
While leveling your slicing you will notice that you also have a chance of getting a schematic or missions. There seems to be very little profit in the schematics as they drop pretty often, on the other hand though crafting missions of the purple 340 level can sell as much as 60000 credits.
Now on to the meat and potatoes. I started keeping a spreadsheet once my skill was maxed out at 400 to make sure that it was actually profitable. I will share the results in just a minute with you. In the following results my net profit is derived strictly from credits returned on a mission. If you happen to receive a 340 slicing mission you can run that for a return of somewhere around 50000 credits depending on the market.
I will list the crafting mission and the net profit and also the percentage of return of an added item.
Plug The Leak: Average net profit of 120 credits and a mere 7 percent extra loots.
Data Race: Average net profit of 518 credits and a 10 percent chance for something extra.
Taking Back Control: Average net profit of 1797 credits and a 25 percent chance at extra goodies.
Fly On The Wall: Average net profit of 1887 and a 18 percent chance for extras.
As you can see you want to run the last two as often as possible. The extra goodies can range from a value of a couple hundred credits up to over 100000 credits, depending on server or your ability to run 340 crafting missions.
I gathered this info over a few weeks. I currently have 6 characters with at least 2 crew members, I do my best to keep them all out on missions whenever possible. I hope that my little slice of info here will help you become a Hutt coalition member too.
As a little side note I broke the 2 million credit mark tonight and I have probably spent that much on gearing my toons and leveling other crew skills and companion affection.

I think I wrote the article on Friday and as of last night I had broken the 3 million credit mark. Hope you all enjoy it.
When I get back to the game, I’m definitely going to get a small army of alts going on Slicing and Underworld Trading. Does makes me wonder exactly what the developers were thinking when they gave us the equivalent of an in-game money press, but oh well… it’s here, so might as well use it.
Thanks for the nice post!
