World of Warcraft – Rift – MMO

Ok Now GTFOOTF!

Let’s start with the number one rule for all WoW players.

While the namesake of this blog is based on the most basic skill of any MMO, in WoW it seems to be the invisible line that divides Gelvon’s M&S from the skilled.

What is most frustrating is the fact that Blizzard has tried to make this as easy as possible yet it is ignored by almost every fail player out there.

For those of you unaware of what I am referring to: GTFOOTF. That’s right Get The F*** Out Of The Fire.

Think of the encounters that have stumped the majority of guilds. The one that comes to mind for me is Grobbulus. The event itself is simple enough yet week after week we were stumped. Looking back I see that most of my guildies were at the front of the fail parade (proudly waving their flag).

Each week the same people would die in the fire (poison cloud) or dump a poison cloud in the middle of the room and then after every wipe they would say in vent “we must be doing something wrong”. We did do something wrong, we drug you through heroics and healed/tanked through your ignorance.

Once we got into a real instance where you were responsible for yourself the results speak for themselves. It took us weeks to teach you what you were unable to learn while leveling. That is what we did wrong.

GTFOOTF seems simple doesn’t it?

Why do so many people have trouble with this basic concept? Why do they fail to move once the event starts?

Here is the deal, in WoW if it looks like it hurts, it hurts. Get the F*** out of it. If it is fire (poison clouds, whirlwind or whatever) and it moves, get the F*** away from it. PERIOD.

Situational awareness (where you are and what is around you) is a huge deal to you and the rest of your party. If you fail to get out of the fire, you force the healer to work harder. While it is true the healer is there to do a job, it is not their responsibility to make up for your fail ways.

Captain fail does not only affect the healer, the tank must now work harder because of less heals coming his/her way. The DPS is forced to use consumables and or cool downs all because you can’t GTFOOTF. Mistakes will happen but when you consistently FAIL to move away from things that can hurt you, there isn’t much fun to be had by those grouping with you.
