World of Warcraft – Rift – MMO

It is like I never left!

I managed to log some SWTOR play time over the weekend and it was a refreshing break. Of course everything was just as I had left it when I logged out almost 2 weeks prior but when I logged in I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. Upon log in, almost instantly I was back “in the story.” Once in the SWTOR world I slipped happily into my role as a ruthless Sith knee deep in the Darkside.

Star Wars progress aside I have been thinking about Mists of Pandaria. I have to ask, is this expansion the right one to walk the World of Warcraft off into the sunset? I know there are some of you who will balk at that but let’s be frank; WoW is well past its glory days. There is no way that Mists of Pandaria will push the subscription base up to near 14 million. I wonder if this expansion will return the numbers to 10 million. Sadly I think not.

I really hope that Blizzards developers do something wonderful with Mists of Pandaria. I would hate to leave the World of Warcraft with memories of a weak Cataclysm and a hopeless Pandaria. With all of the time players have invested in the game I think we (WoW included) deserve a fantastic expansion to usher us into Titan.

As of this writing I am feeling a bit like a sucker for forking over the dough for Blizzards annual pass. My plan was to play the Diablo III beta and then swing on into the full game. With the Diablo III being nowhere in site I am glad SWTOR came along. The only saving grace at this point is the Mists of Pandaria beta access. If it is anything like the Diablo III beta, that might prove disappointing as well.

I will admit that my primary reason for the annual pass purchase was to have early access to Mists of Pandaria information for PandarenMonk.net. The full version of Diablo III was the icing on the cake. Too bad it might be awhile before I ever get to taste the cake. Every month that ticks by makes the $15 a month for the annual pass harder to swallow.

***Warning*** Tomorrows post will be long and I may lose a friend or two over it. You have been warned.
