I bumped into Chloromancer healing by accident. When I was building my souls I was primarily interested in the ability to self heal while doing dps. It started as a means to an end while leveling; soon it turned out to be more than that. Eventually it became a challenge.
The challenge was unknowingly given to my by my guildies as well as the general server population. Daily I was bombarded with the perceived limitations of Chloromancer healing. Groups complained that Chloromancers can’t main heal and that was the primary cause of their frustrating runs.
As all of this went on, I was successfully healing normal 5man runs at level. The only limits I would bump into were poor raid etiquette and trying to go into instances too far above my level. Other than that, I had no trouble healing as a Chloromancer.
As soon I was making easy work of normal instances, I was told that Chloromancers could not main heal expert dungeons. Clerics I was told, were the only ones capable of this feat. Funny thing though, even while the Cleric main healed the instance, these groups would use a Bard, Cleric or Chloro as off heals for difficult trash and boss attempts. Deep down I knew that Chloromancers could do it solo but I had no way of confirming it until I reached max level.
The stigma attached to Chloromancer healing is hard to shake. Any time there is a wipe, immediately the group starts trying to add off heals. This happens continuously even if the wipe can be attributed to other things. Whether it is lack of CC, a bad pull, poor threat management or a simple mistake on my part, all of it leads to Chloromancers can’t single heal.
This is all hogwash of course. While Clerics are strong healers and I don’t want to take anything away from them, Chloromacers are capable strong healers in their own right. In fact I would say they are probably the most powerful healer in the game. I might be biased but from everything I have seen thus far, no other class comes close.
The reason I think this way is two fold. The first is Chloromancers are strong healers period. As far as healing goes, a properly specced Chloromancer is capable of huge healing numbers while never running out of mana. The second is DPS. Sure Chloromancer DPS isn’t huge but it far exceeds a healing Cleric. In fact while my group was spamming the hell out of parser results I was consistently out healing the cleric and my dps was above the tanks.
I have said before those parser numbers are all but worthless and I know that. I simply used the example to help prove the point to those that rely on that type of data. I liken Chloromancer healing to Death Knight tanking. There are a lot of bad ones out there and that gives them a bad name. I have always been fond of being the exception to the rule. When it comes to Chlormancer healing, don’t believe the hype.
I like healing as a mage so much, I wrote a guide about it!
