Can Chloromancers Heal T2′s?

After yesterdays whining diatribe about having nothing to write about, inspiration struck. As I reread the post an idea sprang forth. I have decided to write about some of the search phrases that turn up in my analytics account. Some of them are very blog relevant and some are strange to say the least.

Today’s topic: “Can Chloromancers heal T2′s?”

The short answer to that question is “Yes!” But of course if we dissect that question we can see that they are looking for far more that a simple one word answer. Believe it or not this is a pretty popular question and I think I know why.

The Chloromancer class is some what of an oddity to most people. The idea of healing being a byproduct of DPS is confounding to some. I imagine that the overall thought is “if it isn’t direct healing, it isn’t main healing.” I am here to tell you that is a bunch of tripe.

At the launch of Rift the majority of the player base shuttled Chlormancers off to the realm of the “support healer.” Chlormancers were support healers and unfortunately the majority of people who played Chlormancers fell for the trap. At the time (when I was still watching 50 chat) the chat channels were filled with spam of Chlormancers offering their services as “support heals.” It was also not uncommon to see groups looking for “support heals.” It was disgusting.

Let me put this out there right now. There are a shit ton of BAD Chloromancers out there. The game is nearly over run with them. It kind of reminds me of WoW when Death Knights were first released into the wild. Everybody and their brother rolled a DK and everybody and their brother sucked at the class. Soon enough people were refusing to run with DK’s. Hence soon enough everyone assumed that Chloromancers were only good for support.

Here is where things take a turn. While the FailPlayers of Rift were seeing only the imaginary boundaries of the Chloro spec, solid Chloromancers were wiping the floor with other healers. I know that sounds cocky but it is true. In fact a properly specced Chloromancer could dominate both Tank heals and Raid heals, simultaneously. The really sad thing is, all of this was possible and the majority of the player base was fooled into the “support healer” myth.

Fast forward to patch 1.3, the great Chloromancer nerf of 2011. Okay Okay, that was a bit dramatic but it is true none the less. It would appear that someone somewhere took a long hard look at healing numbers the Chloromancer/Warlock spec was capable of and decided that it was just too powerful for a hybrid spec.

Now in 1.3 you have to make a 51 point investment into the Chloromancer tree to be competitive. Not only that but you also have to decide if you are going to be a single target healer or a raid healer. You can no longer do both jobs competently at the same time. Sure you can swap veils mid fight but it is nothing like the good ole days of 1.2.

So yes Timmy, Chloromancers can heal T2′s. They can also “main heal” just about anything in the game. Now that you know how badass Chloromancers really are, my guess is you are trying to figure out how you can be down.

I was the 2nd best Chloro on the realm when I played Rift “Kauz edging me out”, I used to let the cleric die just to show I could out heal them.
